Variable Resistors In Sinhala

Variable Resistor එකක අගය සරලව ගණනය කර ගන්නා ආකාරය සිංහල බසින්!

These are a special type of resistors that provide us the ability to change their resistance as required by the user.

Basically there are two versions available at traditional electronic shops as;

-Volume control (Big Size)

-Preset (Small Size)

Volume control type can be very easy to manipulate due to the large size.

These resistors cannot handle much power (~0.25W).

These devices usually comes with three terminals and could be used in two major ways:

1. As a variable resistor.

2. As a potential divider.

The smaller version (preset) are to be tuned to the required resistance with the help of a screw driver but the volume control type can be easily tuned as required with the help of our hand.

Variable resistors have a variety of applications such as controlling your radio's volume, changing the speed of your fan...

To use the device as a variable resistor we only use two pins out the three simple the middle pin and any other pin would do but to use the device as a potential diver we use all the three terminals where the voltage to be dived is supplied to the two pins on the either sides and the divided output voltage is obtained through the middle pin of the device.

The main purpose of a variable resistor is to change the amount of current flowing through it and the main purpose of

a potential diver is to change the output voltage.

The device can be even used as a fixed resistor if we connect the device to a circuit by its either side terminals

which will display the full resistance stead on the device.

These devices can be very useful when your circuit requires a resistor of a value which is mot manufactured commercially.

The resistance values can be measured directly by using a multi-meter.
